Business Advice for 2021 with Carrie Verrocchio

podcast Dec 01, 2020

Today, we are talking all about the advice we'd give to business owners in the new year with the lovely Carrie Verrocchio, a mindset transformation coach, a motivational speaker, author, and blogger.

#1 Invest in your business. Invest in yourself.

One of my biggest pieces of advice for business owners is if you're looking to make an investment in your business, whether it be in a course coaching mentorship of any kind, do it before January so that you can include it on this year's taxes.

Believe in yourself enough to do that investment.

We often hear “ when I make so much I'll invest in myself, or when I sign a client, I'll invest in myself”. And really what you are saying is “when I believe in myself enough, I'll invest in myself”.

Truth is, if you wait until you sign x amount of clients or hit your income goals to invest in yourself, you’re going to feel the same way. You’re still going to be scared or stressed about investing.

Believe in yourself today.

When you believe it, your mind can achieve it. But you're going to need help along the way. That's why coaches exist. That's why I have a coach. It's an investment. And when you make that investment in yourself, do it before next year.  Talk to your accountant.

#2 Don’t be afraid to hire a team member for your business

I love having people that are within their zone of genius rather than being a catch-all and doing all the things. I want to stay in my zone of genius. So I think it's really important to have people on my team who are doing the things that they love doing.

So, don't wait until you're ready to hire a team because you will never be ready. Having a team gives us permission to work in our zone of genius. Hiring a team allows us to be more creative and excited about our business.

If you are someone who creates content or you're an author, you're a blogger. That's where your passion is. So spend your time on your passion. Because someone else's passion is building your Instagram, someone else's passion is doing your creative work on Canva. Let them do their specialty and you work in yours.

#3 Unfollow people that are in your company or are similar to your business.

Another piece of advice I have for going into the new year, especially for my network marketers is unfollowing people that are in your company. If you find yourself looking at them, comparing yourself to them, thinking your launches have to look like theirs, it's hindering your creativity, and it's keeping you from showing up in a way that you need to show up to help your people.

You don't need that in your life.

You don't need to compare yourself to anyone.

#4 Follow your gut! Say Yes when you want to say YES in your business.

People often tell you to do things their way because that’s what has helped them to uplevel their business and life. But if you don’t feel aligned to do it the same way... Don’t.  Listen to your nudges. Make 2021 your year of Yes. When you get that strong nudge, say yes!

#5 Understand where your money is coming from and where it’s going in your business.

You need to know your numbers.

You are a business. You need to know your numbers. You've got to know what's coming in and what's going out because that allows you to determine what your next move should be.

#6 Set Goals

Set goals. But not monetary goals. Instead, set experiences, and feelings goals.

Let’s say you want to hit 20k a month. And you build a strategy for that month to hit that goal. You’re so excited to hit it. But then, it doesn’t happen. How are you going to feel? The reality is, that’s not the value you’re looking for. You want to hit 20k a month to buy things, to invest in yourself, to feel good.

 So, let’s change it.

 You don't want the money.

You want the experience, the things that surety whatever that money can bring. Right?

The feeling of paying off that last credit card, the feeling of driving your dream car.

I mean, those are the experiences that I'm holding on to and the money that it takes to do those things.

Let's make money the tactic, not the goal.

#7 Be okay to let go of income streams and offers that aren't serving your mission in your business.

Even if it's not what you expected, it's the way the universe is sending it to you. So, be happy about how it's coming.

Maybe you wanted to make money by writing a book. But, your book wasn’t selling or wasn’t bringing enough money to your business. Instead, you were invited to speaker events and you were getting paid well and better.

Accept that payment. Accept that opportunity. Don’t force the universe into trying to make one thing happen when it's happening a different way than you expected.

#8 Create what your audience wants, but give them what they need.

Sometimes your audience needs help knowing what they need. They're not quite sure they think they know. But what's what they want. You know what they need, pour into them accordingly. It's part of your gift of being a mentor, learning that process. And the longer you work with someone, you're going to be able to recognize these things in them.

#9 Evaluate yourself and your actions

If you're someone that's sick of not getting what you want, evaluate what you're doing to stand in the way of that first, because most of the time, it's our inaction.

Take action, even when you don’t have all of the answers because if you sit there and play it safe, you’re never going to move forward.

#10 Have FUN in your business

Have fun with your business.

It's not supposed to be a chore.

It's not supposed to be hard.

Treat yourself, right?

Taking action becomes way easier when you decide that it’s going to be fun.

And if you are really feeling down, take some time to yourself until you can bring that fun back, because you're going to work so much faster.
